Waiting at the airport can be a tedious and frustrating experience…. I am sitting at Gold Coast Airport typing this right now! It is even worse specially if you have a long layover or a delayed flight.
So, I have decided to take this opportunity to be productive and write this blog as I don’t have my husband with me to annoy LOL.
Here are some ideas on how to make the most of your time at the airport:
Catch up on your work or personal projects… or write a quick blog! If you have a laptop or you use an iPad like me, log into the free airport Wi-Fi to check your emails, finish some tasks, or work on your passion projects. If you are in transit for a long-awaited holiday, you can also use this time to plan finalise your itinerary or start to write in your travel journal.
Read a book or watch a movie. If you prefer to escape from reality and the noise of others for a while, you can immerse yourself in a good book or a movie. You can bring your own or buy one from the airport bookstore. You can also download some e-books or movies on your device before your trip.
Explore the airport. If you have enough time and energy, you can walk around the airport and see what it has to offer. You might find some interesting shops, restaurants, art exhibits, or lounges. You can also look for some hidden gems or quirky features that make the airport unique… especially if you are travelling though international airports, they are definitely more exciting to explore.
Exercise or stretch. Sitting for too long can be bad for your health and mood. You can use your waiting time to move your body and get some blood circulation. You can do some simple exercises or stretches in your seat or in a quiet corner. You can also walk around the terminal or take the stairs instead of the escalator. This is really important if you are heading onto a long-haul flight but I wouldn’t suggest breaking out the “downward dog” in the middle of a busy airport though LOL
Meet new people. If you are feeling sociable, you can strike up a conversation with other travelers who are waiting at the airport. You might find someone who shares your interests, destination, or background. You can also learn something new from them or get some travel tips! I have met some very interesting people at airports.
Relax and pamper yourself. If you want to treat yourself, you can splurge on some airport amenities that can make you feel more comfortable and refreshed. You can book a massage, a manicure, or a haircut at the airport spa or salon where available. You can also pay for access to an airport lounge where you can enjoy some snacks, drinks, and Wi-Fi.
Waiting at the airport doesn’t have to be a boring or stressful ordeal. You can use it as an opportunity to do something that makes you happy, productive or relaxed. The next time you find yourself stuck at the airport, try one of these ideas and see how it changes your perspective. You might even enjoy it! 😊
