Ok, let’s talk Cricket.
I’m not fan, don’t watch it, think it is boring! Tbh I’d rather watch paint dry… hmm actually it’s probably quicker than the length of some cricket games!
Now, my husband, a big fan, watches it, listens to it, loves it!
So I decided I’d give this Cricket thing a go with a trip to the SCG to watch the Big Bash League,
Sydney Sixers v Sydney Thunder!
First stop, Watsons… Vodka Lime & Soda and a burger for an early dinner! Score ourselves a table for the 5 of us outside in the beautiful sunshine thinking well this isn’t so bad to start with…
Than BAM!! RAIN….. and a lot of it!
We tried to sit it out, but it just got heavier and heavier… so time to move inside!
The rain finally subsided after an hour or so and off we went to find our seats. Definitely happy we were seated under cover with that rain hanging around.
The teams came into the field to warm up, couldn’t really tell who was who… actually not that I would know but my husband was pointing out the players.
The unfortunate thing… for the players anyway… is that he had to say their name and the scandals they were connected to 🤦🏼♀️ Go Cricket!
Then the crowd started screaming…
I looked around wondering what was happening then I realised that the pitch cover is removed. The crowd went wild…. Now that was my first surprise of the evening.
The player intro’s started… I hate to say it but I only knew 1 person on each team… Dave Warner and Steve Smith. I can’t believe the crowd booed for Dave Warner… I like him, actually I like his wife Candice so he gets kudos for that 😂
So by this stage your probably wondering who I am cheering for… well wait no more! Apparently my daughter and step son tell me that we are cheering for The Thunders! I ask why and got told… because they are better!
Go Thunders!!!
The Sixers battered first and blah blah blah…. Well we all have a general idea of the game and I am not going to commentate but my husband did to me the whole game 🤣 tbh I did have a lot of questions like, what is happening now? Why do they throw the ball around instead of straight back to the bowler? You know… the normal questions!
I must admit the game was very exciting but hey how could you not get into it with the crowd excitement.
Another surprise for me was… those cricket stumps light up when hit!! What the? Since when? The last time I saw cricket you had to stabilise those bits of timber on top of the stumps 😂🤣 Boy have I missed a lot LOL
The Sixers won 10-62… so apparently the Thunders are not the best LOL
I guess the most important thing I learnt was how respectful the game of cricket is.
Steve Smith scored 100 runs, a century, and the crowd went wild!!!! It didn’t really matter what team you supported, it was a great achievement and everyone cheered.
At the end of the day, I do have a better understanding of the game of cricket and the fact that these quick games of cricket are actually exciting!
but… what I still don’t understand is the KFC bucket on the head thing…
