Day 3… 16km Hike!
Spicers Amphitheatre Eco Cabins to Spicers Timber Getters Eco Cabins
Let’s start with waking up in the amazing bed that was in our cabins. It’s very difficult to get out of such a comfortable bed. Honestly I have slept so well in the Spicers beds, or maybe I am just tired from hiking all day lol???? Another nice hot 4 minute shower to wake me up and get me ready for another day of hiking.
Breakfast at 7am again… breakfast was tea, coffee, juice plus yoghurt, poached egg bolognaise, a German sausage, bread and some fresh tomatoes. Again, so much food and delicious food!
8am packs on and ready to go! We only walked 50 metres then stopped to have a look at the fire bunkers installed just in case of an unexpected emergency.
Then we did another solo walk…. Individually we walked 3 kms solo, enjoying nature, the serenity, the solitude… hmmm ok way too much silence for me lol
The next part of the hike was to the Mt Castle lookout which was only 480 metres away. This is where our Grade 5 trail starts for the rest of the day. Once we finished enjoying the Mt Castle lookout we moved onto the rest of our track for the day.
The hike was just beautiful, I must say the rain forest hike is my favourite type of hike, it’s cooler and the views are amazing!
Just before we stopped for morning tea there was a very steep rocky down hill section. It was slide down on your bum type of section. It was slow and steady… not a good place to have an incident!!!
Morning tea was tea, coffee, hot chocolate, chocolate brownie and banana bread. The chocolate brownie slice was so moist and YUM! The morning tea rest was definitely appreciated after the rocky descent.
We were off again through the beautiful rain forest… I was trying not to look at the close escarpment near the walking track. We walked for about 2.5kms over rocks, large tree roots up and down the hills.
We stopped for lunch under a massive Silky Beach Tree which is being wrapped by a Watkins strangler fig tree… Lunch was Home made Minestrone Soup with freshly made Pumpkin sourdough.
By this time the legs and feet were feeling the rocky terrain beneath us.
After lunch, we were off through the serenity of the rain forest again. We eventually arrived at a gorgeous waterfall… the sound of the the water sent me further into calmness. Oh wow I could stay here forever! From here we were to hike for 1 hour downhill, then 1 hour uphill to arrive at our accommodation for the night.
The downhill hike was tuff, the pressure on your knees was intense but bearable. We arrived at a beautiful creek crossing where we sat and enjoyed the environment, the moment. This was the first of our 7 creek crossings.
The change in the environment over the course of our hike was surprising. Eucalyptus forest, rainforest, rock scrambling, ladder climb, creek crossings, sunshine, darkness from the rainforest canopy… wow so much in such a short period of time.
From the first creek crossing it was uphill for 1 hour and boy did that uphill start quick and steep. The elevation was about 200 metres. I must admit tho hiking uphill is a lot easier than downhill…
We arrived at accommodation at about 3:45pm, Spicers Timber Getters Eco Camp. To walk into camp being greeted by someone handing us hot towels, seeing a drinks table with beer, preseco, wine, meats and cheeses is the best reception anyone could ask for.
We headed into our room which was the same set up as previous night. Although, the difference was… last night it was dark materials inside our cabin and light materials on the outside… whereas tonight was light materials inside the cabin and dark materials on the outside. My personal preference was the latter… due to the fact that the lighter material inside abled me to see a lot easier as the lighting was quite low. Last night it was a little too dark inside!
Dinner tonight was… Sous vide chicken piccata sauce with artichokes. Fried pumpkin sesame black n white on carrot tams ginger purée, Dukkah lemon herbs. Mushroom and faba bean bread crumbs and feta cheese. Broccoli with garlic Cashew cream cranberry’s and almonds.
Dessert was so delicious… Sticky date pudding with mascarpone, almonds with tea leaves sprinkled on top.
