Day 4… 16km Hike!

Spicers Timber Getters Eco Cabins to Spicers Hidden Peaks

The final day…

It has arrived… I have been looking forward to this day but also not looking forward to it! I am having such a great time with some amazing people that I do not want it to end…but also I have had enough of walking so I need it to come to an end LOL

Another 4 minute shower to get me warm and ready to go…

Of course it was breakfast at 7am… Homemade hash brow, Boiled egg, Breads and jam, Tasmanian smoked salmon and Cucumbers.

Today was a lighter breakfast as we have a big day of down hill walking so a heavy breakfast would not be good.

8am. Packs on and ready to go!

The first part of the hike was uphill… and what a hill it was, definitely got the heart rate up and the body warm! Seriously it was the steepest a person could walk without getting on your hands and knees! It lasted about 1km… the next 1km was steep but not as bad. After that it was general up and down curving around the mountain side.

Our morning tea stop was about 5kms in. It was definitely well deserved we all seemed to be hungry this morning. Banana bread and chocolate protein balls. I had stashed a boiled egg in my bag from breakfast so I ate in that too.

We continued on our hike, I was casually walking along when my husband behind me said “oh look snake”… I looked down and my foot was right next to it I mean about 30cms away…. I screamed at the top of my lungs and ran!!!! Oh My Gosh the heart rate stayed up for quite a while and my peripheral vision increased ten fold 😂🤣 I am surprised I didn’t get a sore neck from looking around so much searching for creepy crawlies!!!

We got the point right before our lunch stop where to get to our destination, Bare Rock Summit we had a very steep rock scamble! It wasn’t as difficult as it looked thankfully but I did not look down or side ways just in case I actually realised how steep and how high we were.

The view from the summit was worth every ounce of energy I had put into the hike… it was breathtaking! 360 degree views of the valley below.  We sat and ate our lunch enjoying the beauty of the valley below.

The weather was great while we were eating but just after finishing our lunch, it started getting a little windy… hmmm yes it is time to get off this mountain!

The 2 hour hike back down was quite easy. I am not sure if it was easier because we only had 2 more hours of our 4 day hike left or it was just easy lol. It wasn’t steep.

At the bottom on the trail the bus was waiting for us to be transferred to our final nights accommodation at Spicers Hidden Peaks Cabins.

We arrived to our destination and Spicers had foot baths set up for us all… Ummmmm yes we needed this.  The warm water on our feet after hiking for 60kms over 4 days was heaven.  Time to celebrate our achievements with more food and alcohol LOL

Our final dinner was Wagyu rib eye on bon.  Leeks blanched, hung and smoked then sliced with yoghurt dressing. Corn roasted with  lime juice. Local Calba carrot. Pumpkin.  Dessert was Spicers take on Eaton mess.

After dinner we moved to the open fire where marshmallows were set up for us to roast on the fire, match that with some Baileys to warm the belly and this was a perfect finish to an amazing 4 days!

The Final Morning…

It was a lovely little sleep in we were allowed to have this morning, no 7am breakfast but a relaxing 8am breakfast.

After breakfast we had some free time to relax and enjoy the final moments of serenity before we loaded our bags and ourselves onto the bus for the 1 hour trip back to Spicers Hidden Vale, our starting point.

This hike was well worth the $$, was well worth the physical effort and well worth the mental effort.  It was tuff, self-satisfying and an amazing opportunity to really immerse yourself into the glorious wonderland that nature provides us.  It was a great break from our lives, time to detox from day to day life stresses and rejoin our lives feeling refreshed and very pleased with our accomplishments.  GO US!!!!
