Positano Love!

Positano is one of the most charming towns in Italy.  Located on the Amalfi Coast, it is well known tourist stop for its crystal clear water and beautiful architecture. Perfect for a long stay to unwind and relax or a day trip for those who have limit time on the coast.

My husband and I visited Positano in October 2022 and totally feel in love with the place.

Things we did in Positano

Walked around the town

Positano is a tiny place so everything is pretty close to each other.  “Downtown” Positano centers around a single pedestrian street but don’t forget to wander around the walkways that come off the street as that is where you will find the hidden gems.

Keep in mind that Positano is built vertically so it is either straight up or straight down… depending on which way you are going LOL and a lot of staircases!

We arrived via the Ferry from Sorrento so it was all up hill to start with.  The walk up the narrow streets and stair cases was a little tough in the heat but the view from the top is stunning and absolutely worth the effort… also there are restaurants and bars up the top so a quick refresher and we were off again!

Food! Food! Food!

Positano is most famous for its Seafood, which should be a little obvious as it is right on the coast.

Seafood is my favourite food so I was in foodie heaven!

We decided we wanted to kept our lunch casual down by the beach so we found a cute restaurant right in the middle of the long beach called Buca Di Bacco and we were lucky enough to get a water front table.

The starter “Cold Sea Food Variety” pictured was delicious.  Seafood just tastes better in Italy!  I would definitely recommend this restaurant, yummy food, refreshing cocktails with million dollar views of the Mediterranean Sea.

TBH I didn’t take too many pictures of everything that we ate here as I was really hungry after that walk and couldn’t wait LOL

The History

There are a number of histroical destinations in Positano but the Church of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the greatest attractions not only in Positano but along the Amalfi Coast.

I am going to be honest here and let you know that we didn’t go inside the church.  After 3 weeks already in Italy we were kind of Basilica’d out.  We did however climb that stair case to see it and admire the gorgeous view of the Mediterranean Sea.

You might be starting to get a feeling that we were really only here for the water down below LOL

Hint… I was told that if you are visiting on a weekend, you may be lucky enough to see a wedding.  It is one of the most popular churches in southern Italy for exchanging vows.

Shopping….

Positano is the place for shopping for those with some money to spend on some high quality clothing or some leather goods. But be aware that you will pay a premium price for things in Positano.

Yes I did try on clothes…

Yes I did buy…

Yes my husband did find a new male friend who was also waiting outside a clothes shop for his wife… and an Aussie at that LOL

and yes I could of spent more time shopping but that Mediterranean Sea was calling!

The Beach Club

Now this was my favourite part of our trip to Positano… the reason why I didn’t spend that much time shopping… the real reason I ate lunch so quickly… the only reason I only drank 1 cocktail over lunch.. The Beach Club!

OK, so we got ourselves organised and hired a Bathhouse so we could change into our swimmers and store our personal belongings securely, then we organised our beach chairs.

Price per chair for the day was, 1st row chairs €35 and chairs from the 2nd row back €30… don’t worry if you forget your towel as you can hire one of those as well.

We got settled onto our beach chairs, front row of course.  When spending a day on the beach in Positano you might as well go front row, we ordered our drinks… Cosmopolitan and a Beer from the waiter servicing the beach.  Yes that is right, we didn’t even have to move to get our drinks and we could drink alcohol on the beach! For those non Aussies, our beaches are alcohol free so that is whey this is super exciting!

Tip of the day… order a few drinks at a time as they are a little slow with the service… well slow for us Aussies anyway LOL

Another Hint for you… the beaches in Italy are stone beaches so make sure you have a pair of sea shoes to navigate the walk to the water. Don’t use your thongs or flip flops… they really don’t work the same and it ends up being more of an effort to walk back to the beach chairs LOL

The ride home on the Ferry was a little rough… not because of the Sea but because of the amount of Cocktails I had consumed during the day….
