Ashford Castle

I want to take you on our journey through one of the most enchanting places I’ve ever visited – Ashford Castle in Ireland.

Imagine stepping into a real-life fairytale, where history meets luxury and every corner is filled with wonder. That is exactly what we found at the expansive 350 acre Ashford Castle.

A Bit of History

Let’s start with a little backstory. Ashford Castle has been around since way back in 1228, built by the de Burgo family. Over the centuries, it’s been a fortress, a family home, and now, a world-renowned luxury hotel. Talk about a glow-up!

Arrival at Ashford Castle

As we drove up to Ashford Castle, the anticipation built with each glimpse of its grand facade peeking through the trees. The sense of history and majesty grows as you approach and then we were greeted at the gatehouse by the gate keeper dressed in a suit, top hat and tails. Then we were directed to drive across a stone built bridge to the front of Ashford Castle. The standard of service we were expecting has been set very high already and we haven’t even reached the Castle!!!

Once we entered the reception area, we were not disappointed, valet parking, luggage service, champagne during check in and a private tour of the Castle.

Living Like Royalty

Okay, let’s talk accommodation. The rooms at Ashford Castle are straight-up stunning. Whether you’re into classic elegance or modern opulence, there’s a room or suite for you. And let me tell you, waking up in a room fit for a king or queen is an experience you won’t forget anytime soon. This would have to be the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in with soft dream inducing pillows… how could you not wake up feeling refreshed!

Foodie Heaven

Now, let’s get to the good stuff – the food! Ashford Castle is home to some seriously top-notch restaurants. From fancy fine dining to cozy cottage vibes, there’s something to satisfy every craving. And trust me, the Irish cuisine here is next-level delicious.

Adventure Awaits

But wait, there’s more! Ashford Castle isn’t just about eating and sleeping… although those are pretty great! There’s a whole world of adventure waiting for you here. Horseback riding, falconry, fishing, lake cruising, cycling, archery, golfing – you name it, they’ve got it. And let me tell you, exploring the castle’s grounds is like stepping into a storybook.

Bikes are free to use and explore the expansive grounds. We rode around the Estate which is flat so no problems navigating up any hills. Beauty is everywhere, whether you’re wandering through the lush woodlands, standing on the shore of Louth Corrib or exploring the stone turrets on the estate, you can’t help but think you are in your own fairytale.

You could take the short journey through the Estate and into Cong. Explore the village where the majority of the film “The Quiet Man’ was filmed.

After a day of exploring, we settled into the cinema room which shows movies daily. With fresh popcorn, snacks and drinks, it is a great way to finish off the day! Check out “The Quiet Man” which was filmed on the Estate back in 1952!
