Are you dreaming of visiting Bali?  Well, to be honest, I was not but I have decided to go on an 8 night a trip to the island of the gods! So many people I know go to Bali every year, love it and have an amazing time so I decided it is my time to give it a try LOL

I have been researching Bali, where to stay, things to see and things to do… So I thought I would let you all know the things I have discovered in case you were thinking of heading to Bali on your next adventure.

Where to Stay in Bali

Bali is a big island with different vibes and attractions in each area. So were to stay will depend on what kind of holiday you are looking for.  So here is a list of some different areas to stay:

Kuta – If you are looking for a party scene, cheap accommodation and a long sandy beach, then Kuta is the place for you. It is the most popular but most crowded area in Bali so don’t expect much peace and quiet here.  But if you are up for some fun and action, you will love it!

Seminyak – Is a more upscale and trendy area. It has stylish hotels, restaurants, bars and boutiques as well as a nice beach with good surfing and sunset views. It is a great place for couples and families who want some luxury and comfort.

Ubud – If you prefer a more cultural and spiritual experience then Ubud is the perfect location for this. It is surrounded by lush rice terraces, forests and temples. Ubud is the best place to experience the traditional Balinese culture, art, yoga and wellness.  There are also a lot of cafes, galleries, markets and museums to explore.

Canggu – Is a hip and laid-back area above Seminyak. Canggu attracks surfers, digital nomads and expats who enjoy the relaxed lifestyle. It has a lot of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops that cater to the creative crowd and it also has some of the best surf spots and beaches in Bali.

Nusa Dua – Is a resort area with pristine white sandy beaches, clear blue water and luxury hotels. It is a perfect place for those who want some privacy and pampering in a tranquil setting. It also has some golf courses, water sports facilities and cultural attractions.

What to See in Bali

I did not realise that Bali had so many different landscapes to see.

Temples – Bali is famous for its temples that are scattered all over the island. Some of the most impressive ones that I found are Tanah, a temple on a rock in the sea. Uluwatu, a temple on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  Besakih, the largest and holiest temple complex in Bali. Tirta Empul, a temple with holy water springs.

Nature – Bali seems very blessed with stunning natural beauty. Some of the most scenic places I have found are Tegalalang Rice Terraces, A UNESCO Wold Heritage Site. Tegenungan Waterfall, a cascading waterfall in a jungle setting. Kintamani, a village with a view of Mount Batur Volcano. Jatiluwih, another UNESCO World Heritage Site with expansive rice fields.

Wildlife – Bali looks to have some amazing wildlife that you can see up close and personal. Some places are Monkey Forest, a sanctuary for macaque monkeys. Bali Safari & Marine Park, a zoo with safari rides. Bali Bird Park, a park with hundreds of exotic birds. Turtle Island, an island with turtle conservation projects.

What to do in Bali

I have realised that you can do a lot or a little in Bali… Your choice! Here are some fun activities I found.

Beach – Bali is famous for its beaches that offer something for everyone. Whether you want to sunbathe, swim, surf, snorkel or kayak you will find a beach that suits your need. Some of the main beaches are, Kuta, for surfing and partying. Seminyak, for surfing and sunset. Nusa Dua, for swimming and relaxing. Sanur, for swimming and snorkeling. Pandang Pandang, for surfing and scenery.

Adventure – Bali has a lot of adventure for those who want to get their adrenaline pumping… some I definitely will not be partaking in LOL. Some of the best adventure activities in Bali are Rafting on Ayung or Telaga Waja River. Hiking on Mount Batu or Mount Agung Volcano. Cycling through rice fieds or villages. Zip-lining through the rainforest canopy.

Wellness – Bali is a perfect place for wellness lovers… which I am one of those who love to rejuvenate their body, mind and soul. Some wellness activities to indulge in is Yoga at one of the many studios or retreats in Ubud. Meditation at one of the many temples or ashrams in Bali. You can also try some alternative therapies such as Reiki, a form of energy healing, Acupuncture, a form of Chinese medicine or Sound Healing, a form of vibrational therapy.

Shopping – Bali is paradise for shoppers who want to buy some unique and affordable items… and of course the mandatory Bintang Shirt LOL. Some of the best shopping spots in Bali are Seminyak Square, a modern shopping mall with international brands. Ubud Art Market, a traditional market with handicrafts and souvenirs. Sukawati Art Market, a large market with paintings and sculptures. Celuk Village, for silver jewelry. Mas Village, for wood carving and Tohpati Village, for batik fabric.

What to Pack for Bali

Packing for Bali shouldn’t be too hard as you don’t need too many clothes for the warm tropical climate. But if you are like me, you will over pack just in case LOL. But to keep those bags light, you will need to pack smartly and consider some factors such as weather, the culture and the activities. Here are some tips….

Clothes – Pack light and breathable clothes that can keep you cool and comfortable in the hot and humid weather. Some light layers for the cooler nights or higher altitudes if that is in your plan. Pack clothes that can be mixed and matched for different occasions… One can never be too prepared LOL. A great idea is wear some colourful and fun clothes that can match the vibrant vibe of Bali. Oh and don’t forget the large array of swim wear required LOL.

Shoes – Pack comfortable shoes that can handle different terrains and activities. Thongs or flip flops for the beach and poolside, sneakers or hiking shoes for exploring and dress shoes for going out for dinner.  Throw in a pair of water shoes if you plan on doing some water activities, not required but very handy to have.

Accessories – Throw in your sunglasses and hats to not only protect you from the sun but to rock that holiday look. Make sure you have sunscreen, insect repellent, lip balm and moisturiser to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

Documents – Make sure you have all your essential documents that you need for your trip… passports, flight tickets, hotel reservations, travel insurance, drivers license, credit cards, cash and emergency contacts. A good idea is to have some copies of these documents just in case you loose them or need them for verification.

Electonics – Take all your electronics you need for your trip… phone, camera, laptop, ipad, charger, powerbank, memory cards and headphones. Most importantly don’t forget the power adapter. Download some apps to make your trip a little easier such as, maps, translation, currency converter and a weather forecast.

Conclusion

From my research, Bali looks like an amazing destination and I can not wait to explore the island! Whether its relaxing on the beach, exploring the temples, enjoying the nature, having some adventures, indulging in some wellness or shopping to fill those empty suitcases … Bali seems to have it all!

I hope this guide will help you plan your trip to Bali and make the most of your time and money. So what are you waiting for? Book your flight, pack our bags and get ready for an epic trip to Bali… you may just see me there!!!
