About Hohe Kugel
Hohe Kugel (1 645m/5 397ft a.s.l.) is a mountain in the Bregenz Forest Mountains in Austria. It is a fantastic hiking location and can be hiked from many directions with the one starting from Fraxern Football Field, taking in some stunning views of the Rhine Valley.
This really is the best route to Hohe Kugel – fantastic views most of the way. Once we got higher in altitude, we meet the snow and that snow was thick!
The views on the way up were stunning. The sun was out, sky was blue and the air was clean!
Arriving at the summit of Hohe Kugel was magical. 360 degree views taking in Lake Constance, Switzerland, Rhine Valley, Montafon, Bregenzerwald, to the Tyrol.
The loop hike took us just under 4 hours, this included stops to admire the views, take some photos and have chats with other hikers. Some parts of the hike were a little tuff due to the depth of the snow. You can easily manage this with hiking a little slower and taking more frequent breaks. Trust me… the view from the to is worth every step!
